Prof TF Fok, he is our new Dean after Prof Sydney Chung left for Papau New Guinea. He was the head of Paediatrics. He has always been very kind and spent a lot of his time in teaching. I still gives 2 hours of tutorial weekly to our med 4 students.
Today he came to our hostel to share with us some of his wisdom on medical studies and to ease our tension before our final MB. He spent an hour signing our year books and giving us blessings.
He wrote:
"Dear Marc,
MB Super Pass
Fellowshups also Super Pass" for me....very touching. He tried to think of something different to write for all of us. Then he went on to talked about his life as a medical student. Summary:
1)He skipped class to play soccer a lot
2)He cheated in Exam..(and how all HKU medical students in the 60's used to cheat in exams)
3)His view on surgery
4)His view on the infamous medical textbook (Clinical Medicine in Asia)....it sucks
5)How he is going to make sure the MB are as fair as possible and as objective as possible
6)How to take beta-blocker before exam. (20mg...do not start on the day of exam..start earlier so to avoid anaphylasis during exam)
7)He is going to introduce MBChB-PhD programme next year
8)We should think about going overseas for training.
9)Dieabetics shouldnt drink sweet stuff.......
10)how to be a good house-officer.
11)How hard it is to fail the final MB.....trying to comfort us
12)3 of his classmates had anxiety neurosis during the final MB
;
He is signing our year book...while we make stupid faces..
;
A long queue for his signature and blessing
;
He is signing Chiu Yi's One now, wishing her a sucess in weight reduction
;
Joshua is the person who organised this meeting with our Dean...thanks man

MB Eamination Made Easy
Today, there is this never-seen-before professor came talk to us about final MB. He came from Johannesburg. He was a surgeon but has been working in medical eduation for 15 years (according to him). He worked in an occult unit in our faculty, the centre for learning and teaching excellence...or something like that, that is why he was never seen before today.
He spent the last few years in Hong Kong designing the examinations for our faculty. He had shown us some sample examination questions and elaborate on the reasonale behind, backed by hard-core research facts. For example,
1)It takes on average 38s to read the questions in MCQ. So they have given us more time in MCQ from 72s/question to 90s/question
2)According to a RCT, there is no different in performance whetever the students were allowed to write during the resting stations in OSCE.
3)Negative marking in MCQ cannot reflect the true performance of the candidates..
4)R-type MCQs (extended matching) are effective in accessing basic and clinical science integration.
and so on.
I was once very amazed, there is actually someone doing these kind of research? strange......

Nice car
Today we went to AHNH for ENT tutorial.. the doctor is very nice. I have met the very ugly and old car again ( I first met it in year 4 during Psychiatry). I was at first shocked to find it still here. Then I found out the reason, it is a car the occupational therapists used to train the stroke patients on how to get in and out of a car..........now the mystery is solved

Dr Sex Online
I have signed up for an online voluntary job. Titled "Dr Sex Junior" Where pple with sexual question can get email answers. Today is the first training session. I am the only medical year 5 pple there. Most of the volunteers are nursing students. The trainning is quite useful. Served to help me revise my sexually transmitted infection and also really taught me how to be empathetic towards the patients.
